License Cards, Advanced Practice Approval Cards Discontinued

ATTENTION: NURSES, EMPLOYERS, AND ALL INTERESTED PARTIES

As many of you know, in light of evidence of license card fraud, the Board elected in September 2015 to discontinue issuing license and advanced practice approval cards. This was a significant change in both policy and process and required a substantial transition period to implement. I am pleased to announce the ABN will officially end the license and approval card practice on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

In order to verify the status of a nursing license or advanced practice approval, employers must obtain primary source verification, either through an official Verification, the ABN Subscription Service, or the License Lookup system, all of which are available on the ABN website.

In lieu of the license card, all licensed nurses will be issued a new Continuing Education (CE) card within the next several weeks. This card works exactly like the current license cards for purposes of recording CE, but it will not include a license number and will never expire, regardless of the status of the license itself.

***Note to licensees: Until you receive your new CE card, you should continue to use your current license card for CE.

Thank you all for your patience and support as we move forward in implementing this change.
