Renewal for Actively Deployed Nurses

If you held an active Alabama nursing license and were actively deployed whenever the United States military is engaged in active military operations against any foreign power, your license may be reinstated or renewed without penalty or payment of the reinstatement or late fee.

A copy of the military orders to active duty is required. The application for reinstatement or renewal must be made while still in the armed services or no later than 6 months after discharge from active service or return to inactive military status.

If the required continuing education hours were not earned for renewal during the earning period, the nurse shall be required to complete the required continuing education hours needed for renewal no later than 6 months after discharge from active service, return to inactive military status, or return to the United States from a war zone. Failure to earn the required continuing education hours may be grounds for the license to lapse.

The continuing education contact hours used for renewal may not be used for the next license renewal. The continuing education contact hours for the next license renewal may not be prorated.

If you believe you may be eligible to renew or reinstate using the actively deployed application, submit a copy of your military orders to Javonda Kennedy, fax 334-293-5201, or via email at javonda.kennedy@abn.state.al.us. If you are eligible to use the actively deployed application, Ms. Kennedy will email, fax, or mail it to you.  Be sure to include contact information when sending in the military orders
