2013 Upcoming Board Vacancies

Term:  January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2017

The Board of Nursing will have five positions available beginning January 1, 2014.  The positions, along with the names of the incumbents, are listed.  Board members can only serve two consecutive terms.  If the Board member completes one term, the member is eligible for reappointment.

Registered Nurses interested in the Nursing Educator, Nursing Practice, or Advanced Practice position should complete an application and forward to the Alabama State Nurses Association (link to RN Application).  Do not send the application to the Board of Nursing.  The deadline for the application to ASNA is July 15, 2013.

REGISTERED NURSE POSITIONS

Nursing Education Position:  Nurse educator in college, school, or university setting.  Continuing education does not meet the requirement.  Incumbent, Martha Lavender, DSN, RN (eligible for reappointment—undecided about reapplying).

Nursing Practice: administrative, clinical, staff development, continuing education, and other practice settings.  Incumbent:  Lynda LaRue, RN (eligible for reappointment—does not plan to reapply).

Advanced Practice Nursing: position designated for an advanced practice nurse (CRNA, CRNP, CNM, CNS).  Incumbent:  Laura Wright, CRNA (eligible for reappointment—plans to reapply).

LPN POSITION

LPNAA Nominee:  Licensed Practical Nurse nominated by Licensed Practical Nurse Association of Alabama.  Incumbent:  Maggie Hopkins (not eligible for reappointment).

CONSUMER POSITION

Consumer Position:  Consumer who is not now or in the past been a health care professional or earned money from healthcare facility.  Incumbent:  Eugene R Akers, PhD. (does not plan to reapply).
