Nurses, employers, and the public may obtain written verification of Alabama licensure through these services.

LICENSED NURSE

Prior to requesting a verification, please ensure the following:

  1. The ABN has your current name. You may check this information in My Profile.
  2. The receiving party is expecting it and that you have started a record with that entity.

Verifications may be mailed or securely submitted to the receiving party electronically. Please allow 3-5 days for processing.

Please do NOT mail paper forms to the ABN. Verification requests are an electronic process.


VERIFICATION REQUEST
  1. Log in to the application.
    1. Nurses: Enter the license number and password.
    2. Others: Enter the nurse’s license number.
      P.S. Don’t forget the dash!
  2. Select the Board of Nursing where the verification will be sent.
    If the recipient is a non-Board of Nursing, you must enter the mailing address of the recipient.
  3. Submit payment: $30 fee per verification, $3.50 convenience fee per transaction.
    You may submit multiple verification requests for a single transaction fee.

What is the difference between the information included on License Lookup and a verification?

License Lookup contains current, but minimal, information regarding the status of the nurse’s license. A verification includes all pertinent licensure information.

What is included on a verification?

  1. License by Exam – name the ABN has on file, license number, original issue date, licensure status and expiration date, last 4 digits of SSN, date of birth, method of licensure, school name, completed date, degree/certificate, exam date passed, exam type, results, and disciplinary action.
  2. Advanced Practice information – approval type, original issue date, expiration date, status, certificate type, start date, and end date.
  3. License by Endorsement – name the ABN has on file, license number, original issue date, licensure status and expiration date, last 4 digits of SSN, date of birth, method of Licensure, school name, completed date, degree/certificate, and disciplinary action.

Should I send the paper verification request from the other Board of Nursing’s application?

No, we do not complete other Boards’ paper verification requests.  All verification requests are online.

What is the timeframe for processing a verification request?

Verifications are typically processed within 3 to 5 days of receipt.

Verifications are typically mailed to the recipient, unless the ABN has an agreement with the recipient to receive by email.

Do I have to order a RN and LPN verification for both to be sent?

No, each license type will be included on the verification requested.

If a recipient does not receive the verification, may it be re-sent?

Please allow 14 business days prior to requesting the verification be re-sent. The verification may be re-sent via email upon email request to abn@abn.alabama.gov. Please include the recipient’s email address.

INFORMATION

The target audience for subscribers is employing facilities of Alabama licensed nurses.

Subscribers will receive electronic notification any time there is a change in any employee’s license status. This reduces the risk of individuals working without proper authorization from the Board of Nursing. In addition, subscribing will eliminate the need to submit the annual report of employing agencies, as this will be accomplished electronically through the on-line subscription verification process.

BENEFITS OF SUBSCRIPTION

Notices include the following:

PUSH technology notifies you immediately of changes in license status.
Provides license verification information without phone calls or written requests which include:

  1. Name of licensee
  2. License Number
  3. License status (including temporary permits)
  4. Expiration date of license
  5. Original date of licensure
  6. Prior public action: Yes or No (copy of Board Order without charge if requested)
  7. Advanced Practice status:
    • Date of initial approval of Advanced Practice status
    • Date of expiration of Advanced Practice status
    • Name of collaborating physician for CRNP/CNM
    • Prescriptive authority: Yes or No for CRNP/CNM

REQUIREMENTS
  • Determine the level of service required based on number of licensees.
  • Submit the registration form along with payment of the annual fee.
  • Follow the directions for input of employed license numbers into the ABN website.

What are the levels of service and what is the price?

Why does the ABN have a Subscription Service?

The primary purpose of the Subscription Service is to provide employers with real-time information regarding changes to the status of the nursing license of its employees. For example, if a license lapses or is disciplined, the employer receives notification via PUSH technology when this occurs. By making this information immediately available to employers, the ABN is fulfilling its mission of public protection.

No. The utilization of the Subscription Service eliminates the need to submit a separate report.

LICENSE LOOKUP

License Lookup provides primary source verification as of the date the verification is printed. License Lookup is not the same as verification of licensure required by other Boards of Nursing prior to license issuance.You may look up a licensee using either the name or license number.

Attention Employers: Primary source verification obtained using License Lookup is valid only if the original was printed and maintained in your facility. You should not accept a copy of the License Lookup print product under any circumstances.
