Effective November 1, 2019, all license verification (lookup) for Alabama nurses will transfer to Nursys QuickConfirm License Verification. This means the following for Alabama employers:

ABN Subscription Service and ABN License Lookup: The ABN Subscription Service will remain in effect for Alabama nurses and will include the individual’s date of birth and last four digits of the Social Security Number to identify the nurse. This service will remain in effect and may be used as usual.

Changes – Beginning January 1, 2020, if you enter your out-of-state employees in to the Subscription Service, you will receive notification any time the status of a nurse’s Alabama multistate privilege (MSP) changes (e.g.: deactivation or discipline). The Subscription Service still serves as the Alabama employer annual report and provides real-time discipline notification and as master list for requests from regulatory bodies.

Beginning January 1, 2020: ABN will participate in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)

1. All multistate license (MSL) applicants must be verified through Nursys QuickConfirm License Verification. During the interview process, you simply use Nursys QuickConfirm License Verification to verify the existence of a license. Nursys QuickConfirm License Verification permits you to search by name, license number or NCSBN ID. Simple name matches are not acceptable for license verification and it is recommended you search by license number or NCSBN ID. applicants have been known to troll names to try and obtain nursing jobs in facilities throughout the country.

2. All out-of-state MSL nurses hired and working in Alabama on multistate privileges (MSPs) must be reported to the ABN annually. The out-of-state MLS nurse practices on an MSP, as defined by the NLC. These nurses are NOT ALABAMA MSL nurses, but are licensed by other party states to practice in Alabama.

The ABN recommends using Nursys e-Notify (free service) for all multistate licenses (MSLs) hired and working in Alabama on multistate privileges (MSPs); you also may include Alabama nurses in e-Notify, at your discretion.

Please Note: Nursys Licensure Verification for Endorsement service is for licensees, not employers. Employers would not unitize this product for license verification.

Thank you for your attention to these important issues and thank you for joining us to protect Alabama patients, as we move forward with this exciting new era of Alabama nursing. For your convenience, we are including a brief information sheet on license verification. However, please feel free to contact us with any further questions, at abn@abn.alabama.gov.
