SSL Renewal

Single State Renewal

The renewal period begins at 8:00 a.m. on September 1st and ends at 4:30 p.m. on December 31st (RNs/APRN on EVEN years and LPNs on ODD years). Please be sure to renew prior to 4:30 p.m., as the Board offices will close at that time and Renewal will end. If you fail to renew by 4:30 on December 31, your license will lapse and you will no longer be legally authorized to practice.

Requirements

  • You Must Have Adequate CE: The ABN Administrative Code requires Alabama nurses to complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) credit per license period (in the case of APNs, six of these hours must carry Pharmacology credit). If you have not satisfied this requirement, you will not be able to complete the renewal application and/or APN approval. You may review your personal CE Record in the My Profile section of the ABN website, where you also may access dozens of hours of free, Board-provided CE courses. For your convenience, I am linking the Board’s CE Course Catalog via the image below.
  • Regulatory Questions: As always, during Renewal, all nurses are required to answer a series of regulatory questions relating to legal or disciplinary issues. Answering “yes” to any question will not necessarily keep you from renewing, but every “yes” requires internal staff review and can cause delays. Renewing as early as possible is the best way to get these issues behind you and avoid delays that could result in a lapse of your license.
  • Fees are Non-Refundable.
  • The cost of Renewal is:
    • RN or LPN Single State License $103.50 ($100.00 license fee + $3.50 transaction fee)
    • APRN $78.50 ($75.00 license fee + $3.50 transaction fee)
  • We accept debit and credit cards from American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa. If using a prepaid debit card, be sure to include the $3.50 online fee.
  • Demographic Workforce Survey:
    • The ABN is asking you to voluntarily answer the survey related to employment and educational preparation.  Your answers are critical to the planning of future nurse workforce needs in the state, as well as essential to forecasting future needs.
