Alabama Board of Nursing – Cybersecurity Event Update

The Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) continues to respond to and recover from the cybersecurity event that disrupted Board services beginning September 1. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with the ABN continuing to work closely with cybersecurity professionals and appropriate state resources.
Since the ABN’s September 4 update, recovery efforts have continued to progress, and some systems and services have been restored. Additional systems are being brought back online in phases as they are reviewed, validated, and determined to be ready for operation.
While progress is being made, restoration of the Board’s full technology environment will take additional time. As a result, services may remain temporarily unavailable or experience delays as recovery efforts continue.
Because the investigation remains active, the ABN is not yet able to draw conclusions regarding the nature or scope of the event. Additional information will be provided when facts have been sufficiently validated and can appropriately be made public.
The ABN recognizes the impact this disruption has had on nurses, applicants, healthcare organizations, and others who rely on our services. Every decision is based on our mission to safeguard and promote the health, safety and welfare of the public through licensing and approval of qualified individuals. We appreciate the continued patience and understanding of those we serve as efforts remain focused on safely restoring remaining services.

Attention Applicants Awaiting NCLEX Results
The ABN is able to access your test results as they are reported. Beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026, we will post a running list of successful applicants to our website, indicating that each individual listed is legally authorized to practice as a nurse in Alabama.
Unfortunately, we may not be able to issue your Alabama nursing license number until our services are fully restored. In the interim, you may be identified and your licensure may be validated using the unique identifier assigned to you by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
Effective immediately, Board staff will begin mailing NCLEX Candidate Reports to each applicant as the reports are received.
Attention Employers:
As you may know, license verification services provided by the ABN are currently unavailable. Pending restoration of services, please verify licensure through the NURSYS national nurse licensure database.
Unfortunately, we may not be able to issue your Alabama nursing license number until our services are fully restored. In the interim, you may be validated using the unique identifier assigned to you by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). ATTENTION PROBATION AND VDAP PARTICIPANTS:
Due to a cybersecurity incident, Probation and VDAP participants are currently unable to access the monitoring applications within our system. We are working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible, and have alternative plans in place in the interim. Please read the following information carefully, as it is vital to your continued compliance with your order or agreement:
Drug Screening:
The Board’s program of random drug screening remains in effect. All Probation and VDAP participants who are subject to drug screening should continue to check in with Affinity and complete screens when selected.
Monthly Self-Reports:
Participants will not be required to complete self-reports due on September 5, 2026; however, any information that would have been included on the September report should be included on the self-report that you are required to submit on October 5, 2026.
Quarterly Employer and Counselor Reports:
Our website will be updated with additional information regarding these reports prior to their October 2026 due dates.
