The dates must fall between the dates stated on the Application in order for them to be considered valid.

Alabama law requires that each applicant be an Alabama resident for at least one year before they are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

No, the Board only administers the Graduate Nursing Scholarship as mandated by law, and with funding as appropriated by the Alabama Legislature.
Yes. Scholarships may be awarded for multiple years of graduate study. However, you must apply and submit all documents each time you apply for a scholarship. For example, if you received a scholarship last year, you must re-apply and provide all required documents again.
No. You will need to ensure that the registrar’s office has enough time to sign and date the form and return it to you so that you can upload the form before the deadline date.
The application process starts August 1st.
No. You must attend the specified graduate program for a minimum of six (6) academic hours for at least two (2) consecutive semesters during the year of scholarship funding.
The Board decides the number of Graduate Nursing Scholarship recipients and the amount of each scholarship at its November Board meeting.
You should carefully consider your ability to comply with the scholarship conditions. Each scholarship recipient must:
  • Practice as a professional nurse or nursing instructor in the State of Alabama for two (2) years after completing the graduate nursing degree.
  • Sign a promissory note to abide by specified requirements, which includes repayment of funds to the State Treasury if scholarship requirements are not met.
You will be required to repay the scholarship to the State Treasury. Failure to satisfy the award requirements or repay funds may result in disciplinary action, up to and including revocation of your Alabama RN license.
If you have received the scholarship funds for Fall semester, you will be legally obligated to repay the money back.
The scholarship funds will be paid directly to you, either by check or electronic fund transfer.
You must verify employment in Alabama as a professional nurse or nursing instructor by submitting an employment verification:
  • within six (6) months following graduation, and
  • every six (6) months until the two (2) year service obligation is completed.
