Attention: New Nursing Graduates

As you know, all ABN online services are currently unavailable. To ensure that you are able to apply for your temporary permit and Authorization to Test for the NCLEX, we have developed a paper application process. Please click the appropriate link below, download and complete it, and mail it, along with any required additional documentation and your payment, to:

Please note that payment must be made either with certified funds (cashier's check or money order) or a personal check written on an Alabama bank with the applicant's name imprinted on it.

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received. If further information is required, staff will contact you. When all requirements have been met, the Board will issue your temporary permit and eligibility to test, and the Board's website will be revised to reflect your valid temporary permit. Pearson Vue will then issue your Authorization to Test.

Please note: If you applied prior to September 1, please do not submit a paper application. The ABN staff will process the application you have on file.

Alabama issues single-state licenses (SSL) to qualified applicants who wish to practice only in Alabama. Applicants wishing to endorse to Alabama for a license must not hold an active multistate in another state.

Alabama issues multistate licenses (MSL) to qualified applicants who declare a primary state of residence (PSOR) in Alabama. A nurse holding a multistate license is entitled to practice in any NLC party state but must comply at all times with the laws of the state where he or she currently is practicing.

APRNs with an active RN multistate license in another state who are not changing their primary state of residence to Alabama must still apply for approval to engage in advanced practice nursing in Alabama.
