Nursing Education Info

  1. Alabama law requires that you graduate from a practical nursing program to be eligible for an LPN license and graduate from a registered nursing program to be eligible for RN licensure.
  2. Individuals who took the PN exam after partial completion of an RN program and became licensed as an LPN or LVN in another state are not eligible to apply for licensure by endorsement per Alabama law.
  3. Alabama law requires graduation from a program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  4. Graduates of Regents/Excelsior College: Alabama law requires graduation from a nursing program which substantially meets the same educational criteria as Alabama nursing programs. You may view Board Declaratory Rulings regarding Excelsior graduates here. Applicants are not pre-screened for licensure eligibility.
