Requirements

  1. Complete a new online exam application (see buttons at the right).  (You are not eligible for a temporary permit.) For information about what is required on the application, see the FAQs.
  2. Register for NCLEX® with Pearson VUE (see buttons at the right).
  3. If it has been more than 12 months since you last tested, Board staff may contact you to request any additional required documentation.

Applicants who have taken NCLEX® in another state

  1. You must still be eligible in the State where you originally applied for licensure.
  2. Complete a new online exam application (see buttons at the right).  (You are not eligible for a temporary permit.) For information about what is required on the application, see the FAQs.
  3. Complete Part I of the Out of State Repeat Examination Application Attachment (see buttons at the right).
    • Contact the Board of Nursing where you originally applied for licensure by exam to see if a fee is charged for completion of the form.
    • Mail the form to the Board of Nursing where you originally applied for licensure by exam who will submit the form to the ABN.
  4. Register for NCLEX with Pearson VUE (see buttons at the right).
  5. Contact your school of nursing to request that an official transcript be mailed to the Alabama Board of Nursing.
