The ABN MAC application fee is $50.00. The application will remain valid for one year from the date of submission. A fee of $120.00 is due to Pearson Vue each time you sit for the MACE exam.
A completed Medication Assistant, Certified application and evidence that you have met the following requirements:
  • At least 17 years of age at the time of application.
  • Must be a citizen or legal US resident
  • Completion of one of the following:
  1. A MAC training program approved by the ABN and administered by the Alabama Community College System (ACCS), or a similar program in another state (subject to approval by the ABN).
  2. Nursing Concepts 1 (NUR 113) or a substantially equivalent course, as determined by the Board
  3. US Armed Forces training equivalent to educational preparation for US Army Healthcare Specialist, US Navy Corpsman, and USAF Medical Technician, as determined by the Board according to the applicant's academic transcript validating education preparation.
The ABN will notify Pearson Vue immediately when your application is approved, and Pearson Vue will provide you with an Authorization to Test (ATT) letter. Once you have received the ATT letter, you may register to test through Pearson Vue.
When your application is approved, Pearson Vue will send you an Authorization to Test (ATT) letter, with instructions on registering for the MACE examination.

Supervision by a licensed nurse is required at all times. At least one licensed nurse must be on the premises of the facility at the time when the limited medication administration task occurs.
You can only give premeasured auto-injectable medications for anaphylaxis, vaccination, and opioid-related drug overdose.
No. You can give only a measured prescribed amount of liquid medication or break a scored tablet.
No. You cannot give narcotics or controlled substances.
Yes. MACs can perform fingerstick blood glucose checks under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Program codes are used to identify the specific institution where an applicant received his or her training. A list of program codes is available on the ABN MAC page.
The employers can verify MAC permit on the ABN website under License/Permit Lookup. Employers may also track MAC permits by adding the individuals to the organization’s ABN Subscription Service profile.
When you have passed the MACE exam in Alabama, you are authorized to use the title “Medication Assistant Certified,” or “MAC.”
The school in which you completed your MAC training will send a certificate to the ABN.

You can register for a test date as soon as you’ve received the email. It will have easy to follow directions for registering.
The training course provided through ACCS will vary in cost among schools and is determined by those schools. The ABN application fee is $50.00. The MACE exam will cost $120.00 each time.
Current rules for Medication Assistants, Certified, (MAC) recognize only education administered by ACCS.
You can transfer your license without testing from the following states:
  • New York
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Washington
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming
If you did not test in those states, you would need to send in the class syllabus or course description detailing the topics of your training for approval to test.
